The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, located right in the heart of the historic Blackstone District, is a luxurious place to stay with gorgeous decor, an outdoor pool with a bar, and a fully-equipped fitness center. There are many great reasons to choose the Kipton Cottonwood Hotel for your next stay in Omaha, but we’d have to argue the biggest reason of all is they are 100% pet friendly. They are one of the few hotels you’ll find that don’t even charge a fee for you to bring your furry friend, which is highly unusual and highly appreciated by dog owners!

When Bill Kimpton founded the Kimpton hotel brand back in 1981, it was important to him that all the hotels were completely pet friendly. Their website says, “at every Kimpton hotel, we invite you to bring your hairy, feathery or scaly family member with you for your stay — no matter their size, weight, or breed, all at no extra charge. If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” Kimpton himself would bring his dog to work with him, knowing it brightened people’s day to see a dog.

And that welcoming hospitality to both two-legged and four-legged guests is a tradition that lives on. The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel welcomes all dogs, big or small. They’ll send you off to your hotel suite with a few treats and waste bags for your pup. You’ll be greeted in your hotel room with a plush dog bed and bowls for food and water. All of this is part of the Cottonwood Hotel experience as a dog-friendly hotel.

While the hotel does not offer pet sitting or dog walking services, they’re happy to provide you with information to contact local services in the area. You also will receive complimentary access to Wag! Premium during your time at the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel. This includes 10% off Wag’s services. “Wag! connects pet parents with professional pet caregivers for pet walking, boarding, or sitting. Booked a walk? If you’ve arranged a dog walk while staying with us, be sure to leave a key with the front desk for your dog walker. Any questions about dog walking? Just ask the front desk team,” says their website.

The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel prides itself on being a hotel where modern luxury meets traditional charm. “Our Omaha roots run deep at Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, and in capturing the spirit of the city we call home, we look to our rich heritage to inspire our fresh approach to modern hospitality with a hearty dose of Midwestern charm,” reads their website. The building dates back to 1915 and was revitalized and restored to open in November 2020.

Though they are a luxury hotel, they allow for discounts to make your stay more affordable. If you are in the military, you can receive 15% off your stay at the Cottonwood Hotel. Or, if you stay longer than three days, you can receive 25% off your stay. They are also centrally located near the Blackstone District in Omaha, Nebraska. Within walking distance, you can pop over to any of the bars, restaurants, shops, and more that Blackstone has to offer.

The hotel is also a short ten-minute walk to Dewey Dog Park, which is a wonderful space for your dog to run and play with other pups. It’s broken into two sections, for all dog sizes, and for small dogs. It even includes a splash pad for those hot summer days so your pup can cool off. You can swing by Turner Park on your way back from Dewey Dog Park and have a picnic or listen to live music. Midtown also has some great restaurants and shops to check out while you’re there. From the hotel, you’re also only an eight-minute drive to Omaha’s historic Old Market. Bring your dog and walk around Omaha’s fun downtown area. It’s a unique mix of restaurants, galleries, and shopping.

It’s clear that Cottonwood Hotel in Omaha is a wonderful place to get away with your dog for a few days. Kimpton Hotels even has its own “Pet Playlist” on Spotify for you to jam out to on your way to The Cottonwood. They have truly thought of everything to make every part of your stay a pet-friendly experience.
